Healthy skin is the root for a healthy look. No matter how good you have been with your skin there likely have been times that you neglected it. Apply these tips to your daily life to keep your skin young and healthy.

When you go outside during the summer, use a sponge applicator to put sunscreen on your face rather than your fingers. This allows the sunscreen to further penetrate your skin, thus improving how effective it will be. You can also avoid that greasy or sticky sensation if you’ve applied it too liberally to your face.

It is possible to make your own lip balm for dry, chapped lips. A mixture of honey, cucumber and sour cream will do the trick. Keep the mixture cooled and pat it on your lips as often as necessary. Rinse after 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse the mixture off with warm water, and seal in moisture by applying almond oil.

It is important to clean your glasses and sunglasses a minimum of one time per week – especially if you wear them every day. Gunk and dirt can build up on the nose piece of your glasses. It then gets transferred to your face. Scrubbing the bridge with some soap and water does the trick.

When the weather turns cold, make sure your hands are properly covered. Since your hands are covered with much thinner skin then other areas of the body, they are more prone to irritation. Gloves will protect your hands from the elements, keeping the skin beautiful.

Check over all of the ingredients in your skin products to see if they can soothe redness. Less ingredients is better. These ingredients can hurt you instead of helping. That particular product could cause more redness. In fact, they could even cause a major break-out.

Broad Spectrum

Whether heading out for the day, or just to and from work, your skin needs to be protected from UV rays. Be sure to put on a broad spectrum sunscreen with UVB ray protection half an hour before you go out. The sunscreen should also contain both broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. This can prevent premature skin aging and painful sunburns.

Drinking plenty of water is essential for proper skin care. Doctors recommend that you consume at least 64 ounces of water every day. This is important for your skin’s health. This causes skin to become itchy, dry, and irritable. To avoid problems like these and keep your skin healthy, drink plenty of water.

Facial sun damage that causes aging may be treated in a number of ways. You can try dermabrasion, chemical peels or laser abrasion. You can try each of these treatments by themselves, or you can combine them. Skin that is sun-damaged may also be cared for with a nonsurgical facial. This type of facial uses mild acids (hydroxyl acid or ascorbic acid) to gently remove the top layer of damaged skin.

Add sunscreen to any liquid foundations you use which do not contain it already. Most foundations today contain sunscreen. However, if your preferred foundation isn’t one of them or if the SPF isn’t as high as you’d like it to be, then adding your own sunscreen is an effective technique. If you are always dealing with hangnails, keep your hands moisturized to prevent them from forming. The most effective lotion for this is a lotion containing shea butter. Do your best to fight the temptation. Picking will lead to infections and red fingertips that are unattractive.

We all know that olive oil is great in the kitchen but it doesn’t stop there. The many benefits of olive oil include improved complexion, firm skin, and strong nails. It has also been found to condition and restore the shine of hair.

If your skin is oily, using products made for oily skin can help your skin stay oil free and fresh looking. Use an astringent or gentle toner to remove excess oil, and prevent it from creeping back on your skin’s surface during the day. Don’t forget to use moisturizer. Regularly moisturizing can actually help keep your skin from producing extra oil.

Nourish your skin starting from the inside. It’s only a myth that foods like chocolate and french fries cause acne. Whether or not your skin is problematic, a good diet is important to keep up your skin health. A good diet includes plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats. These are all full of nutrients capable of curbing breakouts.

Gently cleanse your face and take off all makeup before bed to maintain your skin’s good condition. Washing your skin thoroughly and removing all makeup and residue from the day will inhibit bacterial growth on your skin. You can only attain fresh-looking skin if you have had enough sleep.

When you are exfoliating, remember to not do it too often, but do it well. Be gentle and exfoliate for a few minutes. Do this regularly. The exfoliation product may be called a ‘scrub’ but you should not do that to your skin.

How you look is dependent on how you care for your skin to keep it healthy. It may be labor intensive, but using these tips can help you get healthier skin again using only a few moments of your time.
